Tell me why!

Every time I sign in WordPress is all in my face telling me to update to 2.6.2. Well you know what WordPress? You can’t make me! Take a chill pill. I’ll get to it when I get to it!

So I’m curious which blogging client/platform you use and why. I’ve only used LiveJournal and WordPress. I have a Blogger account, but only because SOME people make it impossible to comment without one. You all know who you are ::evil eye::

So why Blogger? Why Typepad? Hell, why WordPress? If you use Wordpress, are you a dot commer or a dot orger? Why do you stay with the platform you’re on? Is it fear of the unknown? Are you comfortable where you’re at? What would you say are the best and worst features of your blogging platform?

While I’m at it, what makes you come back to a blog? Do you stick to blogs that make you laugh or that you can relate to? Do you prefer themed blogs over personal blogs?

Learn me the ways of the blogosphere oh wise readers, learn me!

A little bit of this, a little bit of that

I wonder how often I reuse blog titles. Some times I recognize it and remember that it’s already been used in a previous post. Other times…meh.

Chicago bloggers: I hope you’re available Sept. 15 because Lacey from Perks of Being a JAP will be in Chicago and she’s treating joining us for dinner/drinks. Details are still being ironed out. More than likely it will be downtown. Right now the BIG Bar at the Hyatt on Wacker is our tentative location. (Unless there is a BIG objection to this place, consider it our final choice.) Plan on getting there between 7-8 p.m. I realize it is a week night so if you can join us, please let me know so I know how many to expect. If not, you will be missed! I’d appreciate it if you guys could advertise this on your own blogs so all of the Chicago bloggers can see it.

Twenty (and thirty!) something bloggers: Please keep in mind that a final city has NOT yet been chosen for our Big Blogger Meet-up. Anyone in Boston, Chicago and New York is welcome to submit reasons why the meet-up should be held in that city. Please keep in mind that you have until Sept. 5th to get your information back to us. Either comment here or on the forum post at 20SB. Once I have all of the information, I will post it along with another poll so we can make an educated decision on which city should host the meet-up. Do what Arielle did and share your thoughts on your blog. Spread the word so we can get everyone’s opinion.

Think you know music? Check out Mr. Mega’s blog post today and share your favorites.

Jamie wants to know why or how you chose your blog name. Click here to let her know and to check out the other blogger’s answers.

I know there’s a significant amount of Blackberry users who read this. In addition to taking out your battery for phone maintenance, be sure you clean your cache. This will help improve your phone’s memory.

Blog Day 2008

Will you be participating in Blog Day on August 31st? I will (if I remember!!) The (short version) of the rules are as follows: Find and share five new blogs that you find interesting and include a description of that blog. Notify those five bloggers that you recommended them as part of Blog Day. This is a great way to build traffic, share content and say thank you to some of your readers.

I’ve recommended Captain Blasto in the past and I know some of you are enjoying the web series (yay!) The Captain Blasto team needs your help to get noticed by the Apple iTunes team. All you have to do is watch and write a review! It’s simple :)

Yaaaaaaaaaay!

\

I’m pretty sure yesterday was a fantastic day. I started by going to the gym at the ungodly hour of 8:30 AM. I swear my body rejects exercise before noon. I sweat a small child while on the treadmill and I think I may have died a little while on the elliptical. I still think ab work is my favorite.

\

After stinking it up at the gym, I took my grandfather to Borders. Like me, he has a genuine love for books and thoroughly enjoys the smell of new ones. Yes, we do smell books together. I ended up buying Confessions of a Shopaholic and Accidentally Engaged. I needed a break from the relationship poo-poo and anatomy books. I figured these would be quick, enjoyable reads.

\

Upon returning home I manned my post at the front door knowing that my Macbook was on a FedEx truck just begging to be delivered to me. So I sat, and watched, and waited, and cursed. I go upstairs to putz around a bit and the doorbell rings. Instead of calmly walking downstairs to open the door, I nearly slipped down the stairs because I was running and yelling “yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!” all the way to the door. The FedEx guy looked scared. He asked if I was excited to which I responded, “Super F-word Yeah!!!”

\

\

Yeah. It’s mine. I opened the box, touched it, ran my fingers over the keyboard and smelled it. Then I put it back in the box. What?! Who does that?! I wrapped gifts for my stepdad and finished watching P.S. I Love You before I nervously opened the box again. I was afraid I wouldn’t love it as much as everyone said I would. I didn’t want to NOT like it and feel guilty for spending $999 on it. I have since opened it and started using it. I’m not quite ready to throw my PC out the window and I’m very confused, but I do like it. I only wish I could use MSN Messenger on it. Anyone know if I can?

\

After toying around with it for a bit, I needed a nap. Between the heat, gym and excitement, I was pooped. Sometime during my 3 hour nap my phone rang. When I woke up I got a voicemail from KMart letting me know I had until 7PM to get my Wii Fit. It was about 5:30 so once again I ran down the stairs sans shoes and glasses yelling “yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!”

\

\

Yeah. It’s pretty much mine. That is STILL in the box though. After getting home with it, it was time for dinner and then I was off to celebrate my stepdad’s birthday. By the time I got home I had just enough energy to have a quick AIM conversation on the Mac and collapse into bed.

\

As for a name, I have yet to name the Mac. I like pancake just because it makes me giggle. Any suggestions? And no, I will not name it Princess Doom or Colonel Processor - although very clever names :)

Too hot to come up with a clever post.

Damn Chicago weather. Last week it was winter and now it’s humid and 90? Wtf?!
\

\
Last week Julie Q showed us the Pajamagram she received. It came with a really cute pair of PJs and the My Boys season 1 DVD set. Being a closet My Boys fan, I was excited for her! Thank jeebus for that because I was lucky enough to get my own free My Boys stuff!
\

\

\
I know, my camera sucks. (See Mom? This is why I NEED a new one - for my birthday - July 15th! Kay thanks! :) ) In the picture is a My Boys T-shirt from Crowley’s Tavern and a deck of playing cards. If only I knew how to play poker! (Poker? I don’t even know her! Okay sorry that was lame, but I giggled.) If you haven’t seen My Boys, the new season starts June 12 on TBS. If you want to catch up, I believe all of season 1 episodes can be found online at TBS.
\

\
I forgot to tell you about one of the best purchases I made this week. I really should be posting this on Must Love Geek, but I’m too excited at this point. I bought a Wii candy dispenser! Behold:
\

\

\
Feel free to tell me how awesome I am. The candy is kinda hard, but I can always buy new stuff. When you push the button (”B”) underneath, a little candy comes out of the top. It’s very simple and very bad for my teeth but I love it even if it is ridiculous.

I <3 Phone?

If you’ve been following along at Must Love Geek, I am reviewing the Nokia N95 for WOM World. I’ve already posted my first impressions about the phone.
\

\
After playing with it for another week, I’m developing a love/hate relationship with the phone. While it’s a pretty bad ass piece of technology, it’s just not the phone for me. Read about my second impressions and why this phone may or may not be for you.

Second Rotation

I’m trying really hard not to double up on posts between my two blogs, but every now and then I find something that I think is just amazing. Because this blog has a more consistent and dedicated (thank you!) readership, I wanted to share a link here with everyone. So I’ve taken a post from Must Love Geek and pasted it here. Please check out the site, even if you don’t want an iPhone.
\

\

\

\
A couple weeks ago I wrote a post about Second Rotation. The lovely folks at SR emailed me to let me know that for every electronic sold or recycled through Second Rotation throughout the month of May, they will enter that person in a drawing to win a free iPhone.

\

\
If that’s not motivation to get rid of that extra computer you have laying around, I don’t know what is! Even if you don’t win the iPhone, you can still make money and clean out your closets.
\

\
Don’t forget, they accept more than just computers. They also take game consoles, MP3 players, cell phones, digital cameras and GPS devices.

Good News/Bad News

I’ve added some fun posts over at Must Love Geek in addition to updating my About Me page and my Blogroll (freeandflawed). Enjoy!
\

\
Chicagoans…I have little faith in our city. No, no, no. Mostly our weather. Saturday is not looking good folks.
\

\
In addition to the weather woes, Jamie pointed out that the map is deceiving and we’d be walking a wee bit too much. So we’re trying to re-route our crawl, cutting it in half if necessary. Would any of you be opposed to postponing the Cupcake Crawl until a more pleasant weekend? I don’t know about you, but walking around in 40-degree weather with a sopping-wet cupcake doesn’t sound pleasant to me. Sad :(

Seriously, where’s spell check?

Fortune listed Google at #1 on its 100 Best Companies to Work For list. My boss wanted some information off of their careers page so I stepped up. I took one for the team! But not before quenching my own thirst for knowledge. First I stumbled upon the Top 10 Reasons to Work at Google. “Silly Google, ” I thought. “You don’t need to persuade ME to work for YOU.” As I browsed the site, which I’ve never done before, I learned that Google offers scholarships and internships. How exciting! I checked to see if I met any of the requirements for either. Sadly I do not. This got me thinking though….even though I want to work for Google, I have no idea what I’d actually do there. So I came up with a list!
\

\
1. I could roam from person to person and tell them what a good job they’re doing. “Great memo, Ben!” “Loving the hair Sara!” “Hey John! Great Post-It tower!” I might even pat them on the back. Everyone can use some positive reinforcement, even Googlelites. That’s what I’d call my colleagues.
\

\
2. When I’m done commending everyone for a job well done, I could offer to organize their office. I like to organize and snoop through things. I’d be killing two birds with one stone and they’d reap all the benefits.
\

\
3. After that I could come up with some art for the website to celebrate obscure holidays such as PBJ day. Personally I’d love seeing two peanuts as Os when I opened up Google.
\

\
4. I could test out ball pits in case they were considering purchasing one. This includes, but is not limited to, trampolines, moon bounces, velcro walls, giant slides and bungee jumping.
\

\
5. There is a doctor on site at one of their locations. I could come up with crazy diseases and make sure this doctor is top notch. No sub-par doc for Google! I’m willing to get poked and prodded for some G-love.
\

\
6. I could say “google” in all sorts of funny voices and accents over a loud speaker. You know, just in case someone forgets where they are. And who knows, “google” may lull some employees into a calm, meditative state in which they create something truly magnificent. They’ll thank me.
\

\
7. I could be a pillow tester for employees who sleep in their offices. I’d appreciate someone checking my pillow nightly to make sure it was up to my fluffy standards.
\

\
8. I could also roam the building telling jokes. People need to laugh. Happy employees tend to be more efficient and productive. They’re also less likely to write “I hate my job/boss/your face” on a Post-It and put them on microwaves, mirrors or windows. I’d clean up the sticky residue if they did.
\

\
See, there are many opportunities for me at Google that don’t require some fancy college degree or ridiculously mad computer/sales/marketing/engineering skills. I’m a Jenn of All Trades! How many companies boast one of those? None! So Google, if you were to ask me if I wanted to come on board and monitor the security of your elevators, I’d reply with an enthusiastic “super fuck yeah!!!”

Contest Winners

Last week I asked my oh so clever and creative freaders (this is the very first time I’m using this term) to help me come up with a name for my new blog.
\

\
There were SO many awesome names that I ended up choosing two winners because I used a different name for the link and the header. I wish I could give a prize to more of you because I tried out a lot of names for the link but it someone else already had that .com or .net. I didn’t want to be stuck with the .us or .is.
\

\
The winners are:
\

    \

  • Alexa from Cleveland’s a Plum for “Must love tech” (I changed it to Must love geek, but felt I should give you credit as well)
  • \

\

\
The new blog is still under some construction, but I went ahead and threw some posts up out of excitement. But go ahead and check it out. Jess from Delicious Design Studio is working on a header for me.
\

\
Ladies please email me with your addresses so I can send you your prizes.
\

\
As for everyone else, I really LOVE some of your suggestions. There were many clever and cute ones. If they were available, I’d probably have like three or four blogs popping up just so I could use the names.
