Too hot to come up with a clever post.

Damn Chicago weather. Last week it was winter and now it’s humid and 90? Wtf?!
\

\
Last week Julie Q showed us the Pajamagram she received. It came with a really cute pair of PJs and the My Boys season 1 DVD set. Being a closet My Boys fan, I was excited for her! Thank jeebus for that because I was lucky enough to get my own free My Boys stuff!
\

\

\
I know, my camera sucks. (See Mom? This is why I NEED a new one - for my birthday - July 15th! Kay thanks! :) ) In the picture is a My Boys T-shirt from Crowley’s Tavern and a deck of playing cards. If only I knew how to play poker! (Poker? I don’t even know her! Okay sorry that was lame, but I giggled.) If you haven’t seen My Boys, the new season starts June 12 on TBS. If you want to catch up, I believe all of season 1 episodes can be found online at TBS.

I forgot to tell you about one of the best purchases I made this week. I really should be posting this on Must Love Geek, but I’m too excited at this point. I bought a Wii candy dispenser! Behold:
\

\

\
Feel free to tell me how awesome I am. The candy is kinda hard, but I can always buy new stuff. When you push the button (”B”) underneath, a little candy comes out of the top. It’s very simple and very bad for my teeth but I love it even if it is ridiculous.

Geek News, Take Three.

- Ever Google yourself? I love that “google’ is a verb now-a-days. I googled myself today after the boss googled an applicant. I got nervous and wondered what about me is out there floating around on the web. I found a poem I wrote when I was 13, my facebook account, my Evite response to the Chicago blogger meet-up and some NaBloPoMo forum crap. Nothing too bad! I also found another woman with my same name. Down to the middle name even. She seems to run a lot. Go her!
\

\
- Try to sign onto Windows Live this morning? So did I. It took about an hour to get logged on and that was after uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Seems that Windows Live has been down for about 11 hours now but the service status on their website thinks everything is peachy. Anyone know me on WL? If so, am I still logged on?
\

\
- Matt Damon, be still my heart. Damon will play Jason Bourne one more time in the fourth installment of the Bourne series. After Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatium…what more can be done?
\

\
- Cat fan? Please direct your attention to the anatomy of a cat’s brain. Thanks.

- If anybody would like to send me to the BlogHer ‘08 conference in San Francisco. I’d be very grateful. The ever lovely Jamie and I are trying to get volunteer gigs at the conference so we can go. Assuming the BlogHer Gods are against us, she’s already found some great deals on a flight & hotel. The only downside to the Gods being against us: Early Bird prices END February 28th. That’s two days away for those of you who didn’t know. TWO days to find out if we go for free, $283 or $383. No pressure!!! Luckily for her, she’s still a student and will most likely get a substantial discount. Another drawback to NOT being in school. Stay in school kids!!!

\
- It’s about 79 degrees in my office today. Summer is here! It’s weird sweating inside and seeing five inches of snow outside my window.
\

\
- New MacBook Pros. Celebrate.
\

\
- Found at WonderCon 2008: I’m not entirely sure what these are, but I’d like one.

Good Time Wasters

Tired of your boring everyday photos? Want to spice up those pictures of your dog tearing up newspapers?
\

\
Well geeks rejoice! You can now transform your photos into computer text. Why would you want to do this you ask? My reply is why wouldn’t you want to do this?!
\

\
Go! Go Play!!

\

\
If that doesn’t keep you entertained, perhaps you’d like to try your hand at Paper Mario World (W1) I’m not sure what’s more exciting about this: the fact that it’s a free online game that includes power-up mushrooms and evil Goombas or that it was created by a 13-year-old.

Pay It Forward

\

\
Recently I did a package exchange with a couple people on LiveJournal. I had a lot of fun putting together a little package full of goodies. Yesterday I was reading Binary Blonde’s blog and she wrote about joining in a “Pay It Forward” type of thing.
\

\
Here’s the jist:
\

\
The first three (3) lovely people to comment on this post will receive a gift from me in the mail. The only thing you have to do in return is post the same concept on your blog and send three (3) people (best if their strangers) a gift from you. As far as I know, there aren\’92t any rules as to when you write your post and how much you spend on the gift. Some people are sending homemade items, and some are purchasing theirs. It doesn\’92t really matter what you send. Though, as a rule of thumb, I would send something you might like to receive yourself.
\

\
I’d love to send something homemade, but I’m not crafty in the least! Unless of course you’d like an abstract painting! (This involves finger painting on canvas and calling it art) I will try my best to dig through your blog to get a feel for what it is you like and try to plan my packages accordingly.
\

\
So\’85 anyone want to play along? It should be fun!

Public Art

Cloud Gate, or as it’s better known, “The Bean,” will have a new friend come February.
\

\
Millennium Park, home to Cloud Gate and Crown Fountain, will soon welcome the addition of “Paintings Below Zero.” The new installation will be a 95-foot long multicolored wall of ice with abstract patterns and shards of ice “jutting out.”
\

\
Canadian artist Gordon Halloran will unveil plans for the installation today. Creation will take place in mid-December and he will begin setting it up in mid-January.
\

\
Millennium Park is one of my favorite parts of Chicago. The Bean, which usually attracts hundreds of people per day, is a piece of art I’ve grown to really enjoy. The reflection of the Chicago skyline looks amazing. The distorted self-portraits taken in its side or under it’s belly are fantastic as well.
\

\
It will be really awesome to see some new art added to the park. Sadly it will all melt away come spring time.
\

\

Miro

Need a new online video player? I just so happened to stumble across Miro this morning. It’s a free video platform based in Worcester, MA. With it you are able to play any type of video file (Quicktime, WMV, MPEG, AVI, XVID, etc.), view a crap load of HD content, subscribe to any RSS, podcast or video blog without fussing around with iTunes, download and save videos from YouTube, Google Video and more, as well as download any BitTorrent file.

Now I haven’t tried it out yet, but I wanted to share it anyway. It seems like a pretty neat project and since it’s free, why not help spread the word?!

Miro

If you check it out, let me know what you think. Is it worth keeping? Would you be willing to donate $5 to help them keep their site free?

7-11

What could be better than a slurpee while suffering through the humid summer heat? A free slurpee!

Today is 7-11, the birthday of 7-Eleven, and to celebrate they are giving out free 7.11 ounce Slurpees from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Perhaps today would be a great day to head over to the 7-Eleven Kwik-E-Mart at 6754 W. 63rd St.

Unfortunately, not all stores are participating in the free slurpee day, so be sure to call ahead. Here is a list of 7-Elevens in the Chicago area courtesy of The Chicagoist
