Is Chicago within commuting distance of San Francisco or New York? Technically I could commute there. Google, beware, Gizmodo is looking for two summer interns. I could be one of the lucky two (assuming Chicago suddenly becomes part of California or NY). One can dream!!!

A Cloverfield sequel? Already? Is it even out of theaters yet? Would people actually pay to experience motion sickness again? Doubtful. Though I think I already know the answer to this one, I’ll ask anyway…

If you haven’t seen 27 Dresses or Cloverfield yet and you still want to, you probably shouldn’t read the rest of this post.
\
\
\
Thanks to Joox I’ve been able to watch 27 Dresses and Cloverfield without going to the theater. Don’t judge me. You’d do the same if it meant avoiding the bitter cold. Actually, I’d use it even in the summer time…so I can’t use the weather as an excuse to watch the movies on Joox. It’s a fabulous site though. I have NO CLUE how it’s still up and running, I’m sure there’s some final detail that I’m missing. But I’m okay with that. Onto the movies!
\

\
I wanted to see this movie pretty badly. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting it to be, but I was quite disappointed. Before I get to those reasons, I’ll cover the reasons why I liked the movie.
\
\
- Judy Greer. Love her. She’s fiesty, beautiful and hilarious. What’s not to love?
\
- Katherine Heigl. She’s gorgeous. I love her as Izzie on Grey’s Anatomy. She’s very talented and fun to watch.
\
- James Marsden. After seeing him in Hairspray I’ve developed a mini-crush. Sure was hot as Cyclops in X-Men, but he had too much baggage
\
- Her couch! What a beautiful couch! I know that’s not a good reason to love a movie, but deal with it.
\
\
Reasons why I didn’t like it:
\
- Malin Akerman. I don’t know what it is about her that I do not like. She’s adorable! Maybe she rubbed me the wrong way in The Heartbreak Kid.
\
- The whole story. It was a typical chick flick. Nothing new. No surprises. It was predictable from the very beginning.
\
- Katherine Heigl. Confused? I know I said she was one of the reasons why I liked it. I didn’t lie. But I think she can do much better than this. Go for it!
\
\
\
There has been much hype to this movie and I’ll admit, hype sucks me in like a vacuum.
\
\
The boyfriend saw this on Friday and reported back to me that it was “amazing.” A bit jealous that he got to see it before me, I quickly ran to the computer to look for reviews from fellow blog readers. It seems the majority felt the movie was bad because of the “shakey” camera action. Nobody said much else about the actual movie itself.
\
\
At first the movie didn’t grab me. A disappointment at least. Then again, I was watching a crappy version via the Internet so I gave it the benefit of the doubt. I watched all the way to the end and I am left with many questions and opinions.
\

\
- I love the shakey camera. I love the concept. I think it was great filming it this way because it was meant to look as if a tourist shot it. It made the film feel more real to me. Perhaps watching it on a huge theater screen enhances the motion sickness. For the record, watching it on a laptop was okay! It did make it hard to see what was going on during a few scenes, but overall, I loved it.
\
\
- I don’t get it. How did NOBODY see this giant monster coming? Did it magically manifest itself into Manhattan? Did one of those sponge toys that grow in water go crazy? Or was everybody just choosing to ignore this 20 story monster walking around until it decided to blow shit up?
\
\
- Then again, the not knowing aspect intrigues me and causes me to want to see the movie again. I feel like I may have missed something.
\
\
- Blood on the camera during the attack in the tunnel was great. It was creepy and irritating at the same time!
\
\
- Shoes. One of the girls the camera was following through out the movie was wearing very high heels. Were they stilettos? I don’t know. But come one! If you’re going to have a realistic camera shot, have a realistic woman. No woman would run around a city trying to fend off a monster while still wearing her heels. Take them off!!! (I noticed she finally did while climbing the stairs…because a monster isn’t a good enough reason, but 47 flights of stairs is.) Annoying!
\
\
I can’t compare the two. They’re like apples and oranges. But I have to say I was more entertained by Cloverfield than 27 Dresses and that should say a lot. I’m a girl. I’m supposed to like that chick flick crap. But instead, the mysterious monster attacking a city wins.

I am not a fan of taking movies and remaking them. It was done once, why do it again? The remakes generally aren’t better than the originals.
They only introduce younger generations to these movies - and really, it doesn’t matter because they don’t know it was a remake and if you bring it up, they look at you like you’re 90.
\
\
I’ve learned that a Footloose remake is in the works. This bothers me because the original was great. Why remake it? It also bothers me because:
\
\
1. Kenny Ortega, the director of High School Musical, is directing it.
\
2. Zac Efron will be playing Ren McCormack.
\
3. Zac is no Kevin Bacon.
\
\
Efron is a boy. A boy who wears makeup. He can do the cutesy roles. He can woo the preteens. I don’t want to see a teeny-bopper-friendly
Footloose. This movie was perfect the first time and doesn’t need added drama, girly boys or screaming 13-year-olds. Efron is taking on a huge role here. Bacon is iconic. Sure Efron is good when it comes to dancing around, singing and woo’ing girls. But can he really recreate Ren?
\
\
I don’t know. But I do know that I will not be kicking off my Sunday shoes over this movie.
\
\
Damn you Ortega and damn you Hollywood! This better not suck.

I finally went to see P.S. I Love You this morning with my mom. I have mixed thoughts on it. I’m not sure if it was a good idea to read the book prior to seeing it or not. Nothing is ever as good as the book. I held the movie up to such high standards and inevitably I was disappointed.
\
\
Don’t get me wrong, the scenes with a shirtless Gerard were worth it for me. But the story differed too much from the book. I didn’t like that it took place in New York instead of Ireland. The beginning of the movie starts with Holly and Gerry arguing, then roll the opening credits and upon returning to the movie, we’re at his funeral. The viewer misses so much in the Hollywood version. Why does Hollywood mess with a good thing?
\
\
Another part of the movie I did not like was casting choices. Lisa Kudrow as Denise was okay, not my first choice though. As my mom said, “She has too much Phoebe in her.” It’s hard to see her as any other character. A more important casting choice was that of Holly. I don’t think Hillary Swank is the right actress for romantic comedies. She’s an amazing actress when it comes to strong leading ladies in a drama, but she’s just not girly enough for me. I would have rather seen Reese Witherspoon or Rachel McAdams in the roll. I suppose next to Gerard they would have looked too young though.
\
\
Overall I am glad I saw the movie. I preferred the book, hands down. I’ll probably read it again. I did cry a lot during the movie though. I don’t know if a certain scene just touched me a certain way or what. I know with the book, I became very attached to some of the characters and it was actually a very emotional read.
\
\
I also saw some great previews!
\

\
The Other Boleyn Girl looks fantastic…if you’re into historical movies I suppose. It’s based on the novel by Philippa Gregory and it stars Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Eric Bana as King Henry VIII. I’ve already added the book to my Amazon Wish List. If I’ve learned one thing it’s to read the book before the movie!
\

\
Another movie I’m looking forward to is Stop-Loss staring Ryan Phillippe, Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It’s about a soldier on leave after fighting in Iraq who was ordered back to Iraq. He refuses, of course. The previews were almost hard to watch. I had to fight back tears because unfortunately, this too much like reality for most people. Definitely something I’d like to see though.

So what if I’m swamped with work or just interviewed for a three-days-a-week job without pay!
\
\
What’s got me in such a good mood? I just found out that two of my favorite pieces of man mean will star in a movie together. Some of you ladies might need to sit down for this. Let me know when you’re ready. Ready? Okay.
\

\
Johnny Depp ::drool:: and Christian Bale ::drool:: will star in the movie “Public Enemies.” (I read that Bale is in negotiations to star along side Depp, but that’s good enough for me!)
\
\
Said to be in production this March, “Public Enemies” is a movie about John Dillinger, a bank robber from the early 1900’s who was “considered by some to be a dangerous criminal, while others idealized him as a latter-day Robin Hood.”
\
\
According to Wikipedia, “His exploits, along with those of other criminals of the 1930s Depression era, such as Bonnie and Clyde and Ma Barker,
dominated the attentions of the American press and its readers during what is sometimes referred to as the public enemy era, between 1931 and 1935, a period which led to the further development of the modern and more sophisticated FBI.”
\
\
Bale plays Purvis, “the legendary FBI agent who led the manhunt for John Dillinger.”
\
\
Here’s a fun fact for you: Dillinger’s last day of freedom was July 22, 1934. Dillinger attended the film Manhattan Melodrama (coincidentally, a gangster film) at the Biograph Theater in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. He was killed outside. If you’ve ever been on a Richard Crowe Ghost Tour, he takes you there and tells you the story. Thought I’d share!
\
\
Thank you movie gods. A happy Friday to all!

With the last episode of Grey’s Anatomy airing this evening, I’m feeling really cranky about the writer’s strike. I’ve resorted to watching entire seasons of TV shows and getting sucked into anything they show online. I’m not addicted to Gossip Girl. Do I really need another show to get hooked on? No. I began thinking about Scrubs. When was the last time I saw Scrubs? Early December I think. The bad news is that this is its last season. Will the finale ever air? Is it even written? The semi-good news is that some new episodes of Scrubs will air starting Jan. 24. How many? I don’t know. But at least I have something to look forward to.
\
\
While digging up this news, I found a YouTube video by Zach Braff showing his support for the strike. Upon further digging, I found about 30 other celebs’ videos showing their support. Among them include Sean Penn, Joshua Jackson, Woody Allen, Holly Hunter, Eva Longoria, David Schwimmer (I don’t like him much, but I really liked his video), and the list goes on.

I just caught up on Heroes and all I can say is wow. Damn the strike! For without it, I wouldn’t have to wait to find out what happens.

Not a huge fan of tomorrow’s Bears game being broadcast on ESPN only. Not everybody in Chicago has cable NFL folks. I just don’t understand why cable-less Chicagoans can’t watch the Chicago Bears play. You’re lucky this game means pretty much nothing and I won’t be missing some huge career-making game here. Doesn’t help that half the team is injured anyway. What happened guys?

Saw Enchanted today with the Mother. Another typical Disney movie where dreams come true and everyone has their happy ending, even in a place where it’s not supposed to happen. It was cute and pretty funny. I wish I had a talking chipmunk.Speaking of chipmunks, who’s going to see Alvin and the Chipmunks? Me. I am. I’m almost giddy about it! Even the trailer makes me giggle!
