This post is part of the Best of 2009 Blog Challenge. Thanks to Gwen Bell I will be looking back at 2009 for the next month and highlighting the best parts. 2009 was a crazy year for me. Hopefully we’ll both enjoy the recap!
December 3 – Best Article (What’s an article that you read that blew you away? That you shared with all your friends. That you Delicious’d and reference throughout the year.)
This one was easy. I only wish I found it earlier in the year so I could have spent more time referencing it and spreading it around. Luckily it’s tucked away in one of my awesome folders so I can glance at it in 2010. The article I’m referring to is actually a guest post written by Sean Brown, a good friend of Doniree’s.
The post could not have come at a better time. Only a week or two before it was published I was having dinner with a friend who is contemplating a move to Los Angeles. I completely supported this decision for obvious reasons. But unlike me, she was excited. She had one of those moments that I’ve come to envy where she just knew this is where she is supposed to be.
Anyway, Sean’s post inspired me to be more open to the city of Los Angeles. It welcomed me with open arms and no judgments, I should do the same. I moved here already believing that I would absolutely hate it. I need to get out of that mindset. I want to find that coffee shop that will let me sit there for hours while I type away and forget the world. I want my friends, those who spent my 25th birthday with me and those who pushed me to be adventurous to know that I am having the time of my life. Sometimes I feel so disconnected from the life I am living and I don’t want it to be like that. I want to be in the moment. I want focus and purpose.
It’s about time that I quit talking and dreaming and longing and start acting and being and doing. I will do what I want to do.
Thank you to both Sean and Doniree for the inspiration.
Note: I highly recommend that you read “The World is Your Oyster; The World is My Home.”

I love posts that are so good you can’t wait to share them with every single person you know. I know a post is a good one when I call my mom and tell her about it. Since my mom has no idea what a blog is, I think she thinks I’m making it up, but even so. It’s so rewarding to share things we enjoy!

It’s great that you’re happy with where you are. Adding a tiny bit of adventure is healthy

Why does the world have to be my oyster? Can’t it be like a puppy or something cuter?

I’m with you buddy. I’m not a fan of oysters. I’d prefer a koala bear or dolphin.

My apartment is infested with koala bears. It’s the cutest infestation ever. Way better than cockroaches. When I turn on the light, a bunch of koala bears scatter, but I don’t want them to. I’m like, “Hey! Hold on fellows. Let me hold one of you, and feed you a leaf.” Koala bears are so cute, why do they have to be so far away from me. We need to ship a few over, so I can hold one, and pat it on its head.

OH! And also? Pretty sure one of Sean’s first moves out and away was to Los Angeles – if you need any tips for learning how to love it, I’m sure he’d share that with you.
