I wonder at what point will I realize that I am now living in Los Angeles. The 30+ hour 2,000 mile drive didn’t give it away.
You’d think that the palm trees would give it away. Nope.
Passing movie studios, such as Raleigh and Paramount, on my way to work would be a solid clue, too. But nope.
Seeing people lying by the pool in November – hell, the fact that I have a pool should drive the point home.
Reading celeb gossip and seeing that Gwen Stefani and her family ate breakfast at the cafe I was at yesterday should probably give it away. But no.
Or, you know, there’s that whole address thing. I’ve been handing out the new address left and right, but still it hasn’t hit me.
It’s as if I’m just spending a week or two here for work, like before, except that all of my stuff and my cats are here too. You’d think after seeing my apartment I’d realize I live here.
Nope.
Maybe someone just needs to follow me around with a sign that reads “You ARE in Los Angeles!” And if that someone happens to be a handsome aspiring actor who strangely shares features with Johnny Depp, well, so be it.
* You know what WILL make me realize I’m in Los Angeles? An earthquake. However, I’m not ready to handle the ground shaking beneath me so feel free to postpone the next ‘quake until I leave. Thanks. Now about that sign…

Congrats on the move! I’m sure being in LA feels like vacation compared to Chicago! Keep us posted!

Thanks for the comment Nicole! Definitely feels more like a vacation except I’m working! Funny how that works out

No doubt the realization will wash over you the first time you get into a knife fight over a coke deal gone wrong down on Sunset.

Looks like I’ll be living out an episode of CSI: Miami except in LA.

Okay, I’m using a tip someone sent me about how to get the CommentLuv system to recognize my post… wonder if it will work!
Palm trees always throw me, but I can see how it’s different for you since you’ve been out there so much lately. It’ll sink in

Frack. Comment Luv didn’t work.

It took me a long time to get used to it, too, so you’re definitely not alone. Once you start to get the hang of driving around (and not constantly getting lost, like me), it’ll set in.

I drove to work today without using my GPS! For a second I was worried, but it turns out I was going the right way. I rule.

You’ll know you’ve taken over LA when you can use the freeway system to get anywhere — like CTA in Chicago or MTA in NYC. At least that’s the benchmark I use.

Earthquake? Last big one was in 97′ I was living in Salinas at that time and it was “the big one” since then there had been little ones but you might mistake it for a large truck going by nothing really scary. It’ll hit you when you find out you have a whole winter wardrobe for nothing.

Haha! Funny you should mention winter clothes. When packing I purposely left a lot of my heavy stuff at home. I’m going to regret that when I get off the plane at Christmas and desperately wish I had boots!

Promise to write about it if you meet someone who looks like Johnny Depp!?
I recently had a change of scenery and it’s taking some time to get used to. I hope you don’t experience your first earthquake soon either!

Hahaha, you’ll probably feel an earthquake before you even realize it! And it won’t be as bad as you think.

Oh, I thought that maybe you’d say at the end that once you saw/witnessed all of the polution there, you would really know you were in Los Angeles. Because that’s all I hear in response from people when I tell them I wanna live in L.A. someday! I wouldn’t care – we have it bad in NYC too.

I don’t think the pollution is super bad here, but what do I know? Every city has it. Guess it’s just easier to see here?

I’m sort of waiting for that to happen to me here in Madison. I sort of had to hit the ground running with work, so I didn’t get much time to sit and ponder how I wound up in the Midwest after living in Massachusetts my whole life.
I guess we ask for these sorts of things to happen and work for them for so long and when they finally manifest it’s like.. okay, reality is cool, but what’s the next goal? Time to get to work again.
Kick ass out there! I’ve always wanted to visit L.A. I hear it’s a REAL trip.

How about hotter wather and almost no rain? Or how about hot celebrities rolling around in clubs and restaurants?
ps. you should seriously tell me if you see The Hills casts like that slutty Audrina Partridge or Brody Jenner. Aren’t they always out and about?

Well, you’ve probably been in a fair share of earthquakes without knowing it. We’ve had a bunch of small ones in the 1.0-2.0 range lately. As for the big one… be safe by being prepared!
