A Personal Revolution

by freeandflawed on October 1, 2009

“The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can’t be any large-scale revolution until there’s a personal revolution, on and individual level. It’s got to happen inside first. You can take away a man’s political freedom and you won’t hurt him- unless you take away his freedom to feel. That can destroy him. That kind of freedom can’t be granted. Nobody can win it for you.” – Jim Morrison

It’s weird – whenever I read deep quotes like this, I see the interview scenes in the movie “Almost Famous” where the kid is talking to the lead singer of the band in the movie.

I forgot… a quote that inspires me…
“The sharpest blades are the most easily blunted, bent, or broken” – the executor of the will of Beethoven.

It reminds me that great talent should be cherished, and protected.

Excellent movie choice. My favorite quote from that movie is when they’re talking about home. Thanks for sharing Phampants :)

“Often times in real life, getting ahead is not so much about being smart as it is being bold.”

~ From some book I read and this was the only part that resonated with me.

“I’m not going to change the way I look or the way I feel to conform to anything. I’ve always been a freak. So I’ve been a freak all my life and I have to live with that, you know. I’m one of those people.”

Ha! I can’t say I’ve ever heard that before. It would be really interesting to see a rock version of that movie though. Make it happen Hollywood!

P.S. I’m actually really surprised by the awesomeness of Morrison’s quotes. Either they caught him on really good days or he was pretty much a genius.
