Lies, Pididdle & Falling Off The Wagon

by freeandflawed on July 10, 2009

Phampants is a liar*.

We’re cruising down I-90 when Phampants raises his fist, taps the roof of the car and mutters “pididdle.” Thinking he had a tiny bout of Turrets, I asked him what the hell he just said. “You don’t know what pididdle is?” He asked, as if I just said I never heard of Google. No, I haven’t heard of pididdle and I was convinced he was making up words.

Well as it turns out, pididdle exists. It’s a game in which you look for cars without a headlight. Alternately, a car without a taillight is called pedunk. I never understood these car games. My favorite is Slug Bug. It’s the only game where I’m allowed to punch people.  Warning: Don’t play with the driver. A good punch to the arm and the steering wheel WILL move.

But onto more important things than pididdle. Phampants is a liar. Mr. I’ve Been Drinking For 30+ Consecutive Days was supposed to be starting a week of detox. But he didn’t. I felt that as a blogger, Twitter had a the right to know about him falling off the wagon.

And then he was all:

No it’s not! That’s like telling a kid that it’s his fault he hits mommy. Or something. The point is that he’s a liar.

* A nice liar. He drove me home.

Do you have weird games you play in the car to pass the time?

Whenever I took road trips with the fam when I was younger, I would write out all the state’s license plates I saw. I think it was a decoy to keep me busy, but it worked!

When I travel with my friend, she has this license plate magnet game. I don’t call it fun, because I’m “supposed to be in charge” of the game, but she ends up calling out each and every single one making sure I got it.

ridiculous.

Well now that you know that I’m not making it up, you should play! It’s a lot of fun.

As for the detox, it’s still happening. I’m doing it gradually so my body doesn’t go into shock.

Oh, and it’s punch buggy not slug bug.

And one more thing…PIDIDDLE!

No games, although we used to play the Alphabet Game (finding signs with the letters IN ORDER that part is important!). These days, I’m more likely to be dancing in my driver seat and having a caraoke session. Yeah, I’m that girl.

I love pididdle! My husband never knew what it was either, so he questions my sanity whenever I do it.

My wife and I play “Slug Fay”, which we started two years ago when we bought a Hyundai Santa Fe, and didn’t see too many of them on the road…of course, then we moved to the suburbs and see them all the time…which means my arm hurts a lot.

And my friend Schultz and I played “pididdle” in high school. I remember once the question was “what do you call a car with no headlights?” and the answer was “An idiot.”

I thought it was pediddle/pedaddle. And have played many times with the Husband. But I won’t tell what the “winner” receives. =)

We played the cow game in college. It was really ridiculous, but it worked in Missouri. If there were cows on the side of the road, you got cows. Doesn’t matter how many. But then if there was a graveyard or a slaughterhouse on your side of the road, your cows all died. If there was a bank on your side of the road, you could bank your cows and they survived anything.

I have no idea how we ever knew who won.

In my world, Slug Bug was Punch Bug. And Pididdle sounds right but Pedunk doesn’t. Amazing how these games transcend time and reason.

My fun game was going to sleep while my parents drove, lol. We never had the patients to hold a game long enough or we would just get bored. We did have our gameboys and played together.
