I’m in an abusive relationship with my Wii. There, I said it. It beats me down and I keep coming back for more. It’s kind of like Rihanna and Chris Brown, except we’re both white and neither of us can sing very well. So I guess, when you really think about it, we’re nothing alike.
I’ve mentioned my issues with Wii Fit before. Imagine my surprise when I decided to participate in EA Sport’s Active 30-Day Challenge. I’m pretty sure I was drugged when I bought this. I’ve already tackled WiiFit and don’t even get me started on boxing. I’m crazy. Seriously, watch out. I figured this Active thing couldn’t be that hard. It isn’t too bad. Of course I’m only on day four and have it set on easy.
I have stumbled upon two red flags:
#1 While WiiFit is emotionally abusive, this game lies to me. I could be standing still and my trainer (I named him Frankie) tells me I’m doing amazing. When I’m obviously sucking, I’m doing a great job. When I’m trying really hard, I’m told that I could do better. Even my best isn’t good enough!
#2 It brings back painful memories from kindergarten. We received report cards for stupid tasks like skipping, whistling and jumping. I have no idea how they judged jumping, but I received a B*. This has haunted me and even now, during this game, I’m having a hard time jumping. WHAT THE EFF?! A B?!
If admitting that wasn’t embarrassing enough, I’ve drawn what I look like when attempting a lunge. Jumping lunges can’t even be described by the brush in my Paint program.

What is it about physical fitness that turns me into a complete klutz? Examples can be found here, here and here. It’s like a bad game of Twister minus all the colorful spots and cute boy on top of me. …what?
* Really? A B?!

I want both of those games! Love the drawings, by the way. A B in jumping??? I don’t remember being graded on any of those things in kindergarten… just this little flip book that the teacher woulds stamp happy faces or sad faces in depending on your performance for the day. My flip book should have been named, “One sad year… with a few mediocre and happy ones in between.”

I failed coloring in kindergarten because I colored outside of the lines. Depressing.
Those are fantastic pictures that made me laugh a ton.

I love those Paint drawings. “Balls”. He he he.
I’m contemplating buying Wii Fit. I’ll probably wind up buying Mario Galaxy instead. Yeah, I’m about two years behind in Wii purchases.

Hahaha.
Not enough people use “balls” in that way.
That sounded wrong…

Oh my god, the first paragraph and the drawings had me CRACKING UP! You are awesome, lol.
I kind of wanted a Wii Fit and all that but maybe now, not so much.
Oh and btw… I was a kindergarten teacher last year. We didn’t grade on jumping. What IS that?! Lol!

I’d love to know how your experience with Active is going. I keep thinking I should be doing something more physical with my Wii — Guitar Hero, Super Mario Galaxy, and Mariokart just don’t cut it for workouts.
I think my stepmom has Wii Fit, maybe I should borrow it…

Does Wii Fit really help get you in shape? I’ve been debating for a while now whether I should get it.
Those MS Paint pictures are hilarious. Very classy, missy.

HOW do you get a B in jumping?
If both feet are off the floor, simultaneously, you’ve jumped. And that’s A-worthy.

See, what you don’t realize is that you need to be graceful in your fall. Once you master that, then you can get an A in jumping.

I totally agree with you on the Wii Fit and emotional abuse. No one likes their Mii to look fat!

Ahh, that Wii Fit is EVIL! I’m a 360 girl myself, but i tried a Wii Fit the other day and i swear the thing was cruelly mocking my sense of balance (or lack thereof)…right before telling my 21 y.o self that i have the Wii Fit age of a 30 year old.
so, so cruel…

hee hee, you said balls

Does that you mean you do or don’t recommend the game? Ha.
Maybe you should practice the balance and yoga more on WiiFit, even if those trainers aren’t so nice. That might help? It also might not as my balance is still horrible despite that game.

I want so badly to have a WiiFit.
As I eat this delicious bar of chocolate, I find myself thankful that at this moment, I don’t have one =)

I just wandered back in here after a couple of months not reading any blogs at all – yours was the first I sat and read (still in my PJs with a coffee – it’s a slow start here today).
Sat reading it with a huge grin… we have Wii Fit and are all in denial

I have, thus far, avoided the Wii madness. I think I may, possibly, be even worse than you purport to be!

They graded us like that in elementary school, too! My low grade in skipping tormented me! I used to practice skipping down the halls of our apartment building because of that, haha.

Andrew grew up with a kid who literally COULD NOT JUMP. It was some kind of diagnosed problem he had. I think I should ask Web MD what is up with that.
