The Return of the Crunch

by freeandflawed on March 26, 2009

Remember my gym woes? I do. I miss them. Sort of.

This is Jenn when we she went to the gym regularly:

Crunches didn’t phase me. I could mix it up and have fun with them. I didn’t even break a sweat until I reached the hundreds. I probably could have balanced my checkbook while doing them.

This is Jenn now:

You can’t see it, but my Wii Fit is totally in the background pointing and laughing at me. Now I consider it an accomplishment even raising my head off the mat. One seems like a lightyear away! Okay, maybe that’s a tad dramatic.

Due to the extra layer around my abs, I decided to get back on the wagon and crunch my way into my “skinny” jeans. I was almost certain I broke a rib, but it was only my abs screaming out in pain from the 50 or so crunches I managed to complete.

Why does this matter? Well one, it gives me an excuse to draw some stick figures. Two, I’m running an eff’in 8k in five days! Have I trained? Does running, jogging, walk/jogging 2 miles count? I didn’t think so. I’ve been so busy that I just haven’t had the energy or time to force feed myself running as a hobby. Can’t do it. I don’t have a running buddy either. Roomie won’t jog with me due to jiggling issues and I’m not about to run by myself. I watch the news. I know what happens to female joggers (Hello paranoia!)

Oh, and to top it all off I have asthma. My doctor told me to put my inhaler in my sports bra. Great. Not only will I be a red-faced, panting shmuck in a crowd of athletes, but I’ll also have an elongated third boob.

I hate having to carry an inhaler when I run. This is why I am strictly a treadmill girl now. I don’t have to pace myself or worry about my inhaler. If I overdo it, I’m already home.

I had a friend in high school who punched a hole in the plastic part of her inhaler and hung it around her neck on a string when she exercised. I always thought that was great idea, but I’ve never actually done it. I’m good like that.

I used to do crunches all the time; I’m so lazy now, and I need to get back into shape.

Hopefully you can get some running time in before the 8k!

Aw Jen ! If I wasn’t about ready to have this baby, I would so go jogging/walking with you. Maybe after the baby is born we can start jogging together if you are up for it :)

Good Luck on the 8k !

I’m not sure what part of the city you live in, I’m going to take a gander that so long as you’re not running alone at midnight, running alone is probably just fine. I’d be your running partner if this stupid cold would vacate my body. But, as it stands for now, I can only run (and barely that) indoors. Sigh. If it helps, adrenaline will definitely help carry you through the race!

Hopefully being at the race will give you the adrenaline you need to run! I ran a 10k back in October and stopped training like 2 weeks before (the most I ever ran duirng training was 6k) because I got sick, and was still sick during the race. Somehow I finished. Good luck!

The latter picture is definitely me. I started training for a 1/2-er, but then I got married. And uh, kind of forgot about running for a while. I wanna get back into it, and I wish you the best of luck for your upcoming 8K :)

Wow… I can’t imagine running an 8K, pretty much ever but that’s beside the point. I’m sure you’ll do fine. You may feel like you’re gonna die, but you won’t, at least probably. And I’m there with ya on the crunches… don’t remember the last time I attempted those. Good luck!!

Don’t hurt yourself! Running the 8K without training makes you a brave woman, but be careful out there, especially with the asthma!

hahahaha. My roommate and I have been saying the same thing. We keep planning to go jogging every day, but watching Twilight 3 times seems like a much more productive thing to do.

I haven’t been using Wii Fit lately and I’m afraid to use it and have it laugh at me and command why I’ve been slacking.

I told the Hubby that I want a work out room for Christmas so I don’t have to go to the gym or get kid(or adult)napped outside.

Yes. I missed the paint pictures. I wish I was as talented as you to capture my personal training sessions in “paint”.

lol. funny pics – they depict your point perfectly.

And I have asthma too!!! Exercise-induced asthma that flares up in the winter and allergy season. I just got an inhaler and started on singulair last week :o (
