“You have a friend waiting for you” was what I heard when I walked inside the house this evening. A friend? You mean the man friend is here? Well that’s a pleasant surprise. Definitely unexpected. Before I could peel my backpack off my grandma replied that my friend was not breathing. I was a tad confused because I would think that the man friend would be quite fond of breathing. Then I saw a box. Surely he could not be inside.
The word “skeleton” typed on the side gave it away. I was surprised because it was shipped out yesterday. That was super fast! I pulled out the skull first, unwrapped it and admired it. Then I pulled out the femur, the hand, the hip, etc. No more than ten minutes went by and I had my skeleton man put together on the living room floor. It’s like Christmas morning!
I am a bit disappointed with the quality of his skull. Part of the sphenoid bone is crooked and the screws holding the top of his skull on fall out easily. Oh and I already yanked out three teeth. What? They were loose.
Mr. Bones here needs a name. Currently I’m calling him Buckwheat Bones, but I think my readers can come up with something a bit more appropriate and a hell of a lot more awesome. What’s in it for you? Well I’m glad you asked. I’m not sure yet. I still have a TON of stuff left over from BlogHer, including more laptop skins, two T-shirts, a laptop lock, some software, and other random goodies. I’m sure I’ll be able to put together a lovely gift box for the winner.
So give Mr. Bones a name and win yourself some free stuff!!

With the missing teeth and all, I’m pretty sure his name should be something like Cletus or Jedidiah.
Something appropriately back-country.

He looks like he should be called “Vern”. With Vern by your side, you’re in it to win it. Plus, the pet names you could come up with (Like “Vernie” or “Ver”) are staggering in number.

Maybe Cletus Clavicle, if he needs a last name too.
Or what about Homer Vomer?

My first thought was “Bonita” (it means “beautiful”!), because I like puns… But you seem certain it’s a male, so… I’ll keep thinking.

Okay, I have some more thoughts (both male and female):
‘Aisha - means “alive” in Arabic.
Amrit - means “not dead” in Sanskrit (or, alternatively, “immortal”)
Angerona - the Roman goddess of the winter solstice, death, and silence.
Athanasius - Greek name meaning “immortal”.
Charon - In Greek mythology, the operator of the ferry that brought the newly dead over the River Acheron into Hades.
Elysia - Taken from “Elysium”, or the Greek mythological world of the dead.
Eve - Created from the rib of Adam (a bone… get it?)
Hector - In the Iliad, Achilles killed Hector, tied his dead body to a chariot, and dragged it about. (I imagine you bringing parts of your skeleton to classes for some reason, so it seemed appropriate.)
Leander - Greek for “Lion of a man”.
Libitina - the Roman goddess of funerals, corpses and death.
Marama - Means “moon” in Maori. In Maori and other Polynesian mythology she was the goddess of the moon and death.
Mictlantecuhtli (nickname “Mike”?) - In Aztec mythology he was the skeletal ruler of Mictlan, the realm of the dead, with his wife Mictecacihuatl.
Morana - Means “death” in Slavic. In Slavic mythology this was the name of the goddess of winter and death.
Odin - the highest of the Norse gods, presiding over art, war, wisdom and death. He resided in Valhalla, where warriors went after they were slain.
Thanatos - Means “death” in Greek. This was the name of the Greek god of death who resided with Hades in the underworld.
Yama - Means “reign, curb” in Sanskrit. This is the name of the Hindu god of death. He is also regarded as the first mortal being, or in other words, the first person to die.
On a pun-nier note, I’d like to suggest:
Bonaventura, Bonaventure, Bongani, Bonifaas, Bonifác, Boniface, Bonifacio, Bonifacy, Bonifaz, Bonita, Bonnie, Ebony, Mabon, and Sibonakalisa, which are the closest things to “bones” that I can come up with (and are all legit names).
Or maybe “Haskel” (Yiddish form of Ezekiel), as it’s sort of a play off of “has skeleton”.
By Angela on 09.12.08 11:42 pm | Permalink
I also feel the need to recommend “Adam”, as he was the prototype for men.
By Angela on 09.12.08 11:45 pm | Permalink
Okay I am going with Mortimer for a boy…Teperence(Tempie)or Brennen for a girl. (from ‘Bones’….get it? Haha.)

Bernie, or Mr. Bernie Bones, so you can get an independent film student to get some footage of you and the Bern-meister and suss it up with clips of Weekend at Bernie’s and be famous — at least amongst the others in your class!
