There’s nothing humerus about this

by freeandflawed on September 4, 2008

Because apparently learning from books isn’t acceptable anymore I was forced to purchase this:

Honestly, I’d rather have a bag of bones in my room than a skeleton hanging from a metal bar. The hanging one would result in many startled entries into my room and nightmares.

Why this excites me:

1. The skull comes apart.
2. The hand and foot come put together as well as apart
3. Um…I’ll have a freaking skeleton in a bag. Everyone (in my Anatomy class) will want to be my friend.
4. No more fighting to rent out the bones from the ASAP office. Ew germs! Do you know how many people touch those?! More importantly, do you know where they’ve been? Just today I tried to pick my nose with the skeletons hand. I can only imagine what else goes on with those.

…Crap. I’m going to regret that. I’m just saying…they probably don’t even get washed.

Why this does not excite me:

1. I have to wait 4-5 days for processing alone!
2. I’m $100 poorer. Skeletons are eff’in expensive!
3. I could never have a dog with this thing laying around.

Have you ever tried to put a skeleton together?!

The dog line made me laugh. And I have to say, this makes me jealous. I definitely picked the wrong profession. The coolest gadget I got to buy in university was puppets to talk about teaching children through play. I think I would have rather bought the skeleton.

And can I just say.. $100?? Holy Dinah, skeletons ARE expensive!

I’m sure this is the world’s dumbest question but is it a real one???

Why not put it in a cupboard when you’re not using it – then you can LITERALLY have a skeleton in your closet . . . :)

I studied anthropology for a while (nearly opted for a major in it, then a minor, then decided on another major, but that’s not the point here), so I’ve studied skeletons all sorts! My very first day of anthro lab, my freshman year, my lab teacher put these giant rectangular boxes in front of us. Turns out they were real skeletons and we had to put them together ourselves. I had freakin’ awesome nerdy good time.

No! YOU are the adorable one. You have a bag of bones. I just need to ask you something about the bone rental service. What!? This exists? I never took an anatomy class… not even in high school. That’s a total bummer because I was really interested in learning what was going on with my spine when I was in physical therapy.

Anyhow, my boyfriend was in a lab today with a barrel of 15 severed heads. He was just a guest. He said they took them out of the barrel and stabbed them through a metal spike so they could do cranial/facial surgery. SEVERED HEADS. They were all liver-spotted bald grandfatherly looking faces. I’m so glad I don’t have his job.

Brandy -
$100 is cheap for a skeleton. Most realistic ones run anywhere between $300 and $1200, if not more.

Paula -
No I don’t believe this is a real one. I imagine those would be much more expensive.

Amanda -
It does exist. It’s a great study aide for students. Usually there are only two sets for hundreds of students. Lame.

I have tried to put one together actually, a horse in fact. I own a visible horse model. That thing is hard to do without the model glue it recommends.

At least you’ll only have one skeleton in your closet, instead of several!

Skeleton in a bag = priceless!!
This is making me flashback to an old SNL episode with Dan Akroyd…he was trying to advertise Bag-o-Glass and Bag-o-Nails as toys for kids. Good stuff!!!

The closet I ever came to assembling a skeleton was one out of paper plates in third grade. Not really helpful, but we got to trace our hands and feet for it, and that was exciting.

How awesome. I wish I had one of these for the lone anatomy course I took in high school. Instead, I had the Anatomy Coloring Book, which wasn’t a poor substitute but it definitely didn’t lead to skeleton jokes.

I so want a skeleton to hang in my house. What an awesome decoration.

This is effin sweet! I’d stick it on my wall or something and paint the bones different colors… yes that’s my warped idea of art.

Nice play on words in your subject line. :)

Have you read David Sedaris’ new book? He has an essay in there about his boyfriend having a skeleton in their room. It’s really funny.

Echoing Lauren, the new David Sedaris book is fantastic, skeleton on the cover and story about the skeleton too. Check it out if you get time for regular reading!

hilarious… the sad thing is that this time last year (when taking gross anatomy) my friends and i definitely contemplated the whole buying a skeleton multiple times. never came to fruition though.

enjoy! and know that many a med students are jealous of your skeleton.

I had one of those skeleton puzzle things when I was little. I loved it. I liked it even before I wanted to do forensic science, so maybe that’s where my love for it came from!
