I’m pretty sure yesterday was a fantastic day. I started by going to the gym at the ungodly hour of 8:30 AM. I swear my body rejects exercise before noon. I sweat a small child while on the treadmill and I think I may have died a little while on the elliptical. I still think ab work is my favorite.

After stinking it up at the gym, I took my grandfather to Borders. Like me, he has a genuine love for books and thoroughly enjoys the smell of new ones. Yes, we do smell books together. I ended up buying Confessions of a Shopaholic and Accidentally Engaged. I needed a break from the relationship poo-poo and anatomy books. I figured these would be quick, enjoyable reads.

Upon returning home I manned my post at the front door knowing that my Macbook was on a FedEx truck just begging to be delivered to me. So I sat, and watched, and waited, and cursed. I go upstairs to putz around a bit and the doorbell rings. Instead of calmly walking downstairs to open the door, I nearly slipped down the stairs because I was running and yelling “yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!” all the way to the door. The FedEx guy looked scared. He asked if I was excited to which I responded, “Super F-word Yeah!!!”

Yeah. It’s mine. I opened the box, touched it, ran my fingers over the keyboard and smelled it. Then I put it back in the box. What?! Who does that?! I wrapped gifts for my stepdad and finished watching P.S. I Love You before I nervously opened the box again. I was afraid I wouldn’t love it as much as everyone said I would. I didn’t want to NOT like it and feel guilty for spending $999 on it. I have since opened it and started using it. I’m not quite ready to throw my PC out the window and I’m very confused, but I do like it. I only wish I could use MSN Messenger on it. Anyone know if I can?

After toying around with it for a bit, I needed a nap. Between the heat, gym and excitement, I was pooped. Sometime during my 3 hour nap my phone rang. When I woke up I got a voicemail from KMart letting me know I had until 7PM to get my Wii Fit. It was about 5:30 so once again I ran down the stairs sans shoes and glasses yelling “yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!”

Yeah. It’s pretty much mine. That is STILL in the box though. After getting home with it, it was time for dinner and then I was off to celebrate my stepdad’s birthday. By the time I got home I had just enough energy to have a quick AIM conversation on the Mac and collapse into bed.

As for a name, I have yet to name the Mac. I like pancake just because it makes me giggle. Any suggestions? And no, I will not name it Princess Doom or Colonel Processor - although very clever names

Dude that is the best day ever!!! I love the new Macbook smell. So nice. The Wii Fit looks awesome too, you’ll have to let me know how you like it.

So what’s the new Macbook’s name?? You should be able to use MSN Messenger through iChat on the Macbook. My AIM goes through there.

I tend to name everything after a Sesame Street Character. I’m not *quite* sure why, but I like it.

Wow. I wish I got that many pressies yesterday compared to the NONE that I got. For MSN, you might be able to use iChat (works for Googlechat and AIM for sure) but if not you can just do a search for MSN Messenger for Mac and it’ll come up. The newf uses it on his all the time.

what you’re looking for is adium. i connects to every chat service known to man. and i mean every.

congrats on the mac-conversion experience. it takes a few days before you start to fall in love, honestly, but after a month or two, it’s for life.

OK, I’ll jump on board with Allie and Fabulously Broke. My vote is for Princess Pancake, first, because that just sounds so much like something you would name your new toy. And secondly, you ask me a lot if I want to go out for pancakes. Maybe you are Princess Pancake.

It sounds like you had an AMAZING day! Not only did your Mac come in the mail, but you now have a Wii Fit, too! Hooray!

As for the Mac being slightly confusing, I know what you mean. When I made the switch, it took me about a month or so to get everything down, and after that, it was smooth sailing. You’re gonna love it!

I second adium! I prefer it to ichat although my friends who have always been mac users disagree. try it out and see. you can always delete it. I also recommend looking up the shortcuts through the option key (ex-option+c=copy). My typing has gotten a lot faster by using them. Annnd don’t be worried that you can’t right click. System preferences > Keyboard & mouse > check “place two fingers…” box et voila!

Sorry. I get really excited about new macbooks. It did take me a few months to get used to mine but a year later, you couldn’t pay me to use a pc

You won’t need a gym membership now that you have Wii Fit. That thing is as serious as a heart attack. You even get a trainer - who I doubt will ever leave you. I named my trainer Ted.

That is an amazing day! I’m so happy for you and it won’t be long before you use the Mac with absolute ease and forget about that nasty old PC. You might look into Parallels for the MSN chat problem. Or try Trillion. My MacBook is named Carpe Diem and SO’s is Neptune. SO’s biz partner’s is named Dinner. Super F-word Yeah to your fabulous day!

AHH, Wii Fit is next on my list! I am with you, a little confused, but growing more and more in love by the second. I am trying to adapt to no right click and things like that. It is throwing me.

I also went for a mac after being a PC person foreverrrr and i’ve never looked back. I loooove my mac. And as much as I hate pcs, its all windows fault becuase i also run windows on my mac and that part SUCKS MAJOR ASS. ahem.

ichat should be able to handle it, but if not either Spark or Adium. Spark has more options (you can add your Yahoo messenger, AIM, everything, Adium has no option for Yahoo and msn, I think). I also believe both are free downloads. Super easy to use. I LOVE macs, and in a short while, you will never look back!

Wow, two really, really exciting things all squashed into one. That’s so fun!!!!!!!

I love my MacBook Pro to death. I’ve been an avid Adium user for a few years now and I’ll never go back. Check out http://www.adiumxtras.com for fun add-ons. You can set up your gchat/aim/msn/etc and be invisible/away/available on each separate accounts if you want. So great.

Haha, fantastic news! This entry made me laugh, but I have been just as excited waiting for my package (Neil Gaiman’s Sandman) to arrive. Books + Mail = Yay, too.

that wii fit thing seems pretty rad…you’re going to have to give us all a thorough review…

Dude, that IS a great day. I’m equal parts jealous and excited over the fact that someone got a new computer. And I like the name Pancake. Oh, and I want to hear how much you love (or hate) wii fit.

When I got my ibook back in college, I skipped class all day because my new laptop was worth it. So I understand your excitement!! Mine’s named Staypuff, like the marshmallow man in Ghostbusters, since it’s white. Dorky, YES.

I wanted to download AIM on my new mac when I got it three years ago, but an experienced mac-owner told me to resist the urge and use i-chat. Let me say, you should definitely give this a try before downloading any additional chat apps. You will love it. Just give it some time.

Yep, Adium is the best. Unfortunately my work doesn’t allow us to have adium anymore (I have a mac at home and at work). We do use MSN messenger though so you can just load the program from the microsoft website as well. I totally vote adium though. You can add anything on there, even gtalk chats. You can also set up gmail through iChat. Wow, I sound like a geek.
