I actually do have a problem with it...actually a couple of them (and, I should preface this by pointing out that my 13 year old sister lives with me and is just growing into herself and all of that good stuff). \
\
First, 15 year old girls shouldn't be sex symbols. And these pictures are not "artsy" or "message-filled" or any of that. They are meant to be provocative and to show her as a desirable sexual object.\
\
Second, she and her handlers should be cognisant of her fan base. I don't want to sound like a total prude, but a lot of the $1 million a week that she makes is based on being a totally acceptable and harmless entertainer that millions of parents feel comfortable letting their little girls enjoy. Along with that fame and money should come a responsibility to live up to that reputaion.\
\
Third, what does it teach little girls? When are we going to stop telling little girls that they are only valued so much as they can be physically desirable? We should celebrate her for being smart and talented and generous and all sorts of other qualities...not because she can get a rise out of people by looking older than her age.\
\
OK, now I feel like an old fart...

It has to do with the hypersexualization and fetishism of young girls. It's disgusting that girls are subjected to the ideal of "looking sexy" at such a young age. Personally, I don't think this is "nothing," I think it's getting the WRONG kind of media attention -- "look at the little prostitot!" rather than opening a thoughtful forum on the upsetting reality young women are subjected to day in and day out.

lol. nibblets. \

I really think that the photo, in general, is more unflattering than risky.

So, I've only seen the cover shot, not the others. And while I'm a little appalled it's receiving as much press as it has, I think there's a point to it. Kids these days? Aren't kids for very long. They are trying and experimenting and crossing lines younger and younger. \
\
And a lot of it does have to do with the things they pay attention to ... music, movies, TV, sports. Everyone in those industries serves as role models. Kids are going to want to do what their famous counterparts are doing. And I'm sorry, but if I saw an adult taking pictures of a 13-year old only draped by a sheet? I'd think that's kind of perverted. Even if it is *tastefully* done. \
\
Sure, you can argue good parenting will keep most kids from crossing those lines. But, who's to say if the good kids are hanging out with the line-crossing kids, the good ones won't experiment, too? Shit happens and I think the celebrities should serve as role models for what's truly age appropriate.\
\
My very loud two cents.

OMG I was watching the Today show this morning while getting ready for work and they were talking about what you should say to your kids if they ask about. How about asking your kids why they were reading Vanity Fair? It is a photo shoot for an adult magazine, kids shouldn't be exposed to it, and therefore they shouldn't know anything about it. I hate when shit like this gets on the news. Dude, I paid $53 to fill up my gas tank, lets talk about something real on the news!

Do you think maybe all of this was Annie L's point? I mean what's disturbing about the pic is possibly the exact statement she's making about what Hollywood is doing to these kids.

a) she kinda creeps me out in that picture. I think it's the pale, pale skin with the red, red lips\
\
b) people need to get their panties out of a knot. there are MUCH more important things to worry about than this crap.
