I get by with a little help from my friends

I’m a bit late with this post and most of the bloggers who were there beat me with their posts. That’s okay. I didn’t want to bombard our shared readers with 8 different stories of the same evening :) So consider my laziness a gift to you.

Despite what I wrote in an earlier post, I had a lot of fun. I was really nervous heading out there. Traffic was against me as it was stop and go for a good 20 minutes along Irving Park Road. That gave me just enough time to start freaking out. “Holy hell. Where am I going? I’ve never really been to a bar? How will I know who’s who? Will I even recognize any of them? I’m going to walk in and make a complete ass of myself aren’t I?”

I’m proud to say that I don’t think I made an ass of myself. Jenn – 1, Ass – O. Woo! I walked to the back of the bar, as instructed, and hoped to jeebus that this was the right group of people. I think I recognized some faces and immediately felt a bit more comfortable. Thank you lord I didn’t just stumble upon a table of complete strangers…complete strangers who weren’t expecting me that is! At least it was some what dim in there so the bright red color that attacked my face wasn’t too noticeable.

There were eight of us and five of them were familiar to me. It was nice finally putting a face to a name. And it was fantastic meeting the other ladies who I did not know about. It’s exciting finding new bloggers :) The drinks were delicious. I’m a fan of martinis. The cheese-filled pretzel…um yum. A bit crazy with the cheese, but it still hit the spot. As many of you all now by know, D shared a lovely surprise. Many thanks to CuppyCake Designs and congrats to the winner! I’m excited to see what you do with it!

PB&Razz brought some delicious little chocolate treats. I really could have eaten an entire pan of those, but I’m glad I didn’t. My stomach is glad as well. The bar filled up pretty quickly. The music went up and the lights went down as more and more people squeezed in. At that point it was pretty difficult to hear what was being said but I tried my best to remain engaged. I felt a bit awkward because I wasn’t sure what to say and I was trying my hardest to not be sad and just have a great time. I struggled with that. But I’m looking forward to more meet-ups in the future and hoping even more Chicago bloggers will attend. It was a great opportunity and I had a lot of fun meeting such creative, funny and beautiful people.

Take a looksie at the other’s stories from the evening:

I’m sure there are some pictures floating around out there as well. There’s a good chance you’ll see me with one eye open and the other half shut. I have mad picture taking skillz.

I think we were all nervous! I know I was :) But it was definitely a good time, so worth it.

Just think – next time, you’ll know 7 more faces than you did last time. Hopefully, it won’t be quite as scary! Great briefly meeting you – maybe next time, I’ll sit within a shout’s distance of you!

There’s many Boston bloggers out there. You should arrange a meet-up!

I am not sure I’d want to meet any other bloggers, except you. And SadieAndLeo. And Stiletto. Ok, fine, it would be interesting.

Wait, you’ve never been to a bar?

I’d say in the three years that I’ve been able to drink legally I’ve been inside of a bar maybe four times. That’s a guestimation. The opportunity didn’t really present itself often. I didn’t know many people who drank much or went out to bars that didn’t reek of old, pervy, and drunk men.
