Chicago Grumbles

\

Adding another odd twist to our city’s transit saga, the City Council voted today to increase the real estate transfer tax, and to give that money to the CTA…but only if the CTA gives free rides to active military personnel and disabled veterans.

\
So let’s see, seniors ride free, military rides free and vets ride free. For a company who was so strapped for cash that they had three Doomsday threats and almost walked off the job…they sure are giving up a lot of free rides.
\

\
Why don’t we just up the tax a bit more and let everyone ride for free? This IS the direction they’re heading.
\

\
Stop raising taxes!!

Be careful driving today. After getting hit with another winter storm yesterday, many of the salt trucks are finding themselves without salt. It seems that there is salt on it’s way but the barge transporting the salt is trapped in a ice pack somewhere on the Illinois River. Ironic?

What I wouldn’t give to be lying on the beach, digging my feet in the sand while drinking some type of exotic fruity drink. Mmm napping in the warm sun.
\

\
But no. I’m stuck here. Even if I had somewhere to go, I couldn’t because O’Hare canceled 1,000 flights yesterday in addition to the hundreds they canceled the day before. Good luck getting out!

that’s the kicker. we can’t leave if we want to.

I feel your pain here in Madison. Thankfully, work closed yesterday so I had a snow day!

I’m oh so envious of you :) I’ll be heading to Atlanta at the end of the month - but that’s no where near as pleasurable as Orlando. Enjoy the sun for me, too!

Ehhhh, there’s something to be said for seasons. Come live in Southern California for a year or so. You’ll be all hey, wtf happened to my SEASONS.

Ugh me too! Blog meet up in Hawaii! Y/N?

Chicago doesn’t have many seasons. There’s winter, construction and summer.
\

\
Sometimes, if we’re lucky, we’ll have all five seasons in one day (Yes, 5) We’ll start out with a spring/summer mix, slowly turn into a rainy fall, then before you know it we’re driving home along the construction-filled road with snow blocking our vision.

\
Yay for seasons haha!

If I could afford it and get out of Chicago, that would be fabulous.

Oh man, that sounds like a bad scene. I really don’t get the whole seniors and military riding for free thing. I mean, that’s like 50% of the bus ridership right there.
