While I’m still marveling over Apple and all of its Mac Air glory, I’m letting out a sigh of relief that I didn’t run out and spend $1,800.
\

\
I love the Mac Air. I’ve never had a Mac but have had the joy of toying around with one at work. During my frequent trips to Best Buy, I often pass by the Mac section and pet each laptop a bit. One day Apple, one day.
\

\
Yes the MacAir is something to be excited about. It comes with a bright LED display, long battery life and a built-in iSight camera with mic. Oh, we can’t forget the large multi-touch trackpad. It weighs three pounds!!! But at what cost? (Aside from $1,800!!)
\

\
I like those features, but I wish they didn’t have to omit others, such as an optical drive. An O.D. allows you to copy CDs to iTunes or watch DVDs. It’s definitely built for the wireless world. It doesn’t come with an ethernet port. So unless you have wireless net or feel like driving around the neighborhood to steal somebody elses, you’re SOL. This last one I can get over, but it won’t be easy. The MacBook Air only comes with one USB port.
\

\
It’s not like my VAIO weighs that much more than the Air. Will I still drool over the Air? Yes! But can I see myself spending the cash (assuming I had it?) No. I can compromise, but I’m not willing to forgo these features just yet. I like my computer to be convenient and suit my needs. While I’d love to carry it around in my bag and not need a massage after, I’ll settle for my VAIO. At least I won’t need a USB hub or stolen wireless net for it.

Since I’ve never owned a Macbook, I can’t really agree or disagree :) Whatever makes you happy!

Yes, the new Air is quite handsome, isn’t it? I’m still not sure, either, why they left out so much of what I consider essential to a laptop, but what the heck do I know? Oh, and, we are planning to go Mac next week (not the Airs, though)! I can’t wait!

I guess the media companies are loving that it has no optical drive built in – meaning you would have to buy digital music if it’s your only machine (or buy the drive for it).

Of course, everybody will just trudge over to Pirate Bay…

Forgot to mention – Mac’s are wonderful. We have a Macbook at home that we share. It’s so much better than Windows it’s frightening.

the bluetooth wireless system on the mac air is being underestimated. although it doesn’t come with an optical drive, you can connect via wireless to another computer’s optical drive and “borrow” it, so to speak.

\
i also don’t like that there is no ethernet plug, but with how our world is developing, the entire world is going to be wireless in about 5 years. you could be riding in a car and pick up wireless anywhere you go.

\
check out my blog, i wrote a whole post about advantages and disadvantages of the macbook air.

\
just thought i’d throw in my two cents!

P.S. this was, of course, written from a mac. haha
