Missing Persons: Update 10.31.07

The body of Alma Mendez was found Tuesday in the river next to her jogging path with her throat slashed.
\

\
Unfortunately, there isn’t much updated news about Chicagoland’s other missing woman in a jogging suit, 23-year-old Stacy Ann Peterson. Her husband, a Bolingbrook police sergeant, claims she left him. Stacy Peterson is Drew Peterson’s fourth wife. A previous wife, Kathleen Savio, 40, was found dead in an empty bathtub in her Bolingbrook home on March 1, 2004, officials said. Hmm…suspect much?
\

\
Hopefully Stacy’s fate isn’t as unfortunate as Alma’s. It’s truly frightening and sad to read about all these missing women stories that end up in death.
\

\
Another unfortunate story has ended with a teen being charged with murder. Katherine Olson answered an ad on Craigslist for a baby-sitting job when she was murdered by 19-year-old Michael Anderson. He has been accused of shooting Olson in the back of his home in Savage. The body of the 24-year-old woman was found in the trunk of her car, which was abandoned in a park about five blocks from Anderson’s home.
\

\
When Anderson was confronted with evidence, he admitted to being present during the murder, but the slaying was committed by a friend of his who “thought it would be funny.”
\

\
How horrible.

Fun With Anatomy: Feet

\

\
Our feet have got to be the most overworked and under-appreciated part of our bodies. Really think about how much you use your feet. The demands we put on them are endless. Not just our feet, but our entire lower leg. Those poor muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, etc.
\

\
Today “Fun With Anatomy” will focus on our feet.
\

\
I bet none of you even know how complex our feet are. I was quite surprised when I found out. Wrap your minds around this:
\

\
The foot is an amazing complex of 26 bones, 30 joints, 3 arches, 112 ligaments, intrinsic and extrinsic musculature and complex layers of intricately woven fascial and soft tissue structures!!
\

\
Take a look at your foot and try to imagine all of that under your skin! I can’t!
\

\
Our feet do much more than hold us up. They act as a base of support for stability with minimal muscular effort. They’re a mechanism for rotation of the tibia and fibula (leg bones) during the stance phase of gait. They’re flexible and help us adapt to uneven terrain. Let’s not forget shock absorption.
\

\
Be kind to your feet. Imagine what it would be like if something happened to one of those 26 bones or 30 joints. Go get a pedicure or a nice foot scrub.
\

\
Treat your feet!
\

Oh those crazy cats over at I Can Has Cheezburger crack me up!

Dancing With the Poo Faces!

\

\
Is anybody else completely shocked that Sabrina was kicked off of Dancing With the Stars last night?
\

\
I think Marie or Jane should have been sent home. But even between the bottom two, I don’t think Sabrina should have left.
\

\
Well I’m done watching it. She was the only reason I tuned in.
\

\
And as a side note…did anyone else catch her call her partner “baby?” Or how about the “I love you” from him to her? Um….dating much?

Missing Persons

It’s becoming very frightening to be a woman these days…
\

\
Alma Mendez and Stacey Peterson are the two latest missing persons from the Chicagoland area. Only a few months ago another Chicago woman was missing and later, found dead. Months before that there were a series of attacks and attempted rapes on women. Really makes me feel safe going out and about alone.
\

\
Alma Mendez, 38, went jogging in the forest preserve in South Chicago Sunday afternoon and hasn’t been heard from since. The mother of three is hispanic, about 5′4″, 115lbs. She has black hair and was last seen in a jogging suit. If you have any information, call 708.756.6424.
\

\
Stacey Peterson, 23, of Bolingbrook, was last seen Sunday morning in a red jogging suit. She is white, has brown hair, blue eyes, about 5′2″ and 100lbs. If you have any information about her, call 815.726.6377.
\

\
Lisa Stebic has been missing for six whole months now. Family members will hold a candle-light vigil for her.
\

\
Be safe out there folks!

Crappy drivers and consumers!

Dear Chicago Shoppers,
\

\
I understand that time is money and therefore we always seem to be in a hurry. But since when did it become acceptable to show a complete lack of regard for the people around you? I am convinced that Chicago is home to some of the rudest and ignorant people.
\

\
While out and about this afternoon I was cut off twice, both times the drivers seemed to be completely oblivious to the fact that I was there. I’m lucky I was paying attention or else I probably would have been hit. When I have the right of way, that’s not a good time to pull out into the intersection and look at me like I’m there wrongly. You are Mr. Rusty White Car. Don’t give me that look. I had every right to be there. So what if I was blocking your turn. I was only doing so because you weren’t meant to be in the intersection! Wait your eff’in turn!
\

\
I hate when I’m walking through a mall and people come out of a store, barely, and stand there looking over the receipt or texting on the cell phone. Um…hello? We’re walking here! Why should I have to go around you? You’re the one getting in the way and messing up the flow. If you want to look at the shit you bought, walk past the entrance and stand off to the side. Don’t be ignorant. Don’t look surprised when somebody, I, make a comment about your inappropriate choice of gathering spot.
\

\
Cashiers. Why can’t you look up at me? Is it that hard to take time out of your product swiping and bagging to look at me? If I say hello to you, I expect a hello back. Today I waited at least a minute before the cashier even turned around to notice I was there. She was too busy talking to another worker. I know I should have said something but honestly I was curious to see just how long this could go on. I’m not that short and she should have been able to hear me placing my items on the counter right next to her. Plus, it’s not her job to stand with her back turned to the entrance. She should be ready to help. I didn’t HAVE to come to this store. I’d much gladly go to Kohl’s and pay half the price for the stupid sweater. I should have.
\

\
Don’t be ignorant. Get out of the way. Be respectful. Stop being stupid. The earth does not revolve around you. I don’t care if Bobby just asked you to winter formal or Forever XXI totally ripped you off. Stand to the eff’in side and celebrate or whatever. As for the crappy drivers, one day somebody won’t be paying attention and you’ll hit them and have a nice little lawsuit on your hands. I just hope that lucky person isn’t me!

Fitzy, Game 3 & Da Bears

I’m beginning to think I have some odd issues with drunk, burping, crude men.
\

\
That’s right folks, I’m talking about Fitzy :D \

\
I purposely didn’t watch YouTube at all this week in hopes he’d post some funny videos about the Red Sox games. But I’ve only found one :( \

\
Still amusing though!
\

\
[youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=5eElCz0ZWuc]
\

\
And much congrats to the Sox who had quite an exciting game last night.
\

\
In case you missed it:
\
- Daisuke Matsuzaka hit a two-run single, congrats
\
- Red Sox won 10-5.
\

\
That’s all that matters. Who needs all that other hubbub?
\

\
In other news, the Chicago Bears play the Detroit Lions (for the second time in the last month!). We need this game to stay in the….game haha! So cross your fingers and let’s hope that Griese and Urlacher get it together and stay on top in this game. None of this 9-second left touchdown bs. My heart can’t take it!
\

\

\
Think they’re going to crush that child?

Autumn Festivities Pt. II & a dash of randomness

After making pumpkin bread, my cousin and I headed to the book signing for The Zen of Zombie. It was pretty fun. The author was very laid back and funny. He did a short reading and signed books. I recommend picking up the book if you have a sense of humor :) \

\

\
Fall is here! I love the colors :) \

\

\
Preparing for pumpkin bread.

I usually mix by hand because mixers scare me.

This is a critical step in any baking adventure

\
Wrapped and ready for dessert tomorrow!
\

\

\
My grandma, pleased after having some bread.
\

\

\
My grandpa got dressed up for the pumpkin bread!
\

\

\
It comes with a diploma, med school in 96 pages, heroes of medicine trading cards, a board exam trivia challenge and more! I love it!
\

\

\
That’s for my cousin. She wanted a picture of the building :)
