Does Chicago really need another skyscraper?
Architect Santiago Calatrava says yes.
On April 18 Calatrava presented the model for the new Chicago Spire. The 150-floor building is scheduled to be completed in 2010. The skyscraper was approved to be constructed along Chicago’s lake front, west of Navy Pier in the Streeterville area.
The estimated cost: $1,200,000,000.00
I find it hard to believe that the city will fund that, but not fund the CTA to fix their damn trains!!
It is expected to have 300 condos for sale after its completion…none of which I’ll be able to afford.
The Spire is also rumored to be taller than the Sears Tower, making it the newest tallest building in the U.S. Exciting.
I’m not sure how I feel about its construction. I honestly don’t believe Chicago needs another building, but I’m sure it’ll make the skyline look even nicer.

What are your thoughts on the new addition? Love it? Hate it? Share!
