Prince Harry, 22, known more for partying til dawn than waking for battle, will be deployed to Iraq. His regiment is expected to set out in May or June for a six-month tour. “He has been trained to lead a team of 12 men in four armored reconnaissance vehicles and could become the first British royal to see combat since his uncle, Prince Andrew.” (Associated Press)
While I commend a son of royalty actually fighting in a war…I’m not all that proud (mostly because I have no major opinions of him or his family).
It’s this next piece that bothers me a bit:
Britain’s Ministry of Defense has previously said harry could be kept out of situations where his presence could jeopardize his comrades. Col. Bob Stewart, a former British commander, said he was certain Harry would be safe. ‘The Blues and Royals will take great pride in making sure no one gets near him,’ he said. ‘I can’t think of better security than having a regiment of British soldiers around you.’”
Maybe I’m confused and not understanding correctly…but why does he get such special treatment because he is the son of Princess Diana? None of our soldiers are guaranteed safety when they report to Iraq. Doesn’t seem very fair to me.

Anna Nicole Smith. Why is she so newsworthy? Death is a tragic thing, especially when its somebody who was so young…but what did she do that effected society so greatly? I’m sorry, but shakin’ your boobs, marrying a rich guy, getting your own TV show to prove how dumb you are and then selling your soul to Trimspa doesn’t seem like an awesome achievement worth so much media coverage. So she was a star in the celebrity gossip world…so what? I’m sorry if I seem insensitive, but I don’t see why every newspaper needs to be following this.

According to The Red Eye a state report says the mass-transit system in Chicago needs a major overhaul.
I think I speak for all of the commuters in Chicago when I say: Duh?! No wonder the CTA sucks ass. It’s taken them this long to figure out there are problems. This worries me.

State Rep. Greg Harris (D-Chicago) introduced a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in Illinois this past Thursday.
“Illinois is a heartland state but has always been a leader in civil rights and social justice issues,” said Harris.
This proposal would eliminate wording in state law that marriage is between “a man and a woman” and substitute the phrase “two persons.
I say: It’s about damn time! It’s time for all those close-minded people to wake up. You’re not going to catch the gay gene from two people getting married who happen to be of the same sex. Most of you who are against it are homo-phobes and don’t even care about the Bible argument. It’s not hurting you, so shut your trap and mind your own business.

The Number 23 was released this past Friday. I had the pleasure of seeing it today. Going into it I had very high hopes for this movie. I like seeing Jim Carrey outside of his quirky, funny-man roles. The first thirty minutes were pretty slow. Honestly, I didn’t really get sucked in until we started nearing the end and I began getting confused. I think that’s what pulled me in so I could figure out wtf just happened.
I would recommend this movie only because I believe the ending was a pretty good one. And I must admit, I did come home and try many names and birthdays to see if they equaled 23. I did find that Sept. 11 equaled 23 (09/11/2001: 9 + 11 + 2 + 1) I’m disappointed to find that there’s a lack of 23 in my life.
Mr. Cranky doesn’t seem to think too fondly of this movie. He gave it a three out of a possible four on the “Painfully Awful” scale. He does provide us with this fun fact though: It was better than “Fun with Dick and Jane” but worse than “The Truman Show.”
So, if you’re into numerology or paranoia…definitely go see this movie. If you’re into actors stepping outside of their comfort zone, walk, don’t run to see this movie. If you’re just a very critical person and don’t like many mainstream movies, well…I’ve got nothin’.

I agree with your take on Prince Harry. Military respect is not won by the blood you happened to be born with…it is won with the blood you shed on the battlefields while defending your comrades.
If the Prince enlists into the army, then he becomes a soldier just like everyone else, not a coddled symbol of a soldier.
