I recently acquired a new laptop that runs Windows new OS: Vista
I knew very little about Vista before getting the computer. I’m more of an impulse person rather than a shop-around and learn-as-much-as-you-can-about-a-product person. I agreed to take the computer regardless of its operating system. Then the dreaded words came out of the salesperson’s mouth: not compatible. Every other word in that sentence seemed to disappear and I focused on the not and the compatible. I soon learned that since Vista is so new, not many programs are compatible with it just yet. I soon began focusing on it’s security features
But what do I know? I took the laptop home with me anyway. After turning it on, I became overwhelmed for whatever reason by the differences I noticed from XP. Some people will argue that there aren’t many differences….I on the other hand am used to running one version of Windows and rarely step outside of that safety zone…so anything other than XP is brand spankin new to me.
I found a few blogs this morning in which people share their opinion on Vista:
I’ve only been using it for about a day, so I can’t form an opinion on it just yet. I am concerned about the lack of compatible programs and the annoyance of the “cancel vs. allow” messages that pop up (they’re almost worse than popups!) But I’m a simple gal and enjoy the sheer fact that I can have a magic 8 ball gadget on my desktop. So for now….I’m content.
A tid bit of information about Vista
The only opinion I can offer on the matter at this point in time is that I believe the word “Vista” should be a verb or adjective:
“You’re looking very vista today!”
“What’s up? Oh nothing, I just vista’ed.”
Edit: More and more people dislike Vista everyday. Here is a list of 122 reasons why to not upgrade to Vista. I found this over at Blogoblog

While Vista is better than XP, it is not wise to jump ship if you are content with XP. Program compatibility is problematic at times, and the minimum specifications are fairly hefty.
As for the ‘cancel/allow’ dialogs, yes they can be annoying. But, so is opening and closing the locks on your outer doors. Would you stop doing that just because it’s annoying?
Good luck with the new computer!

I’m beginning to like the new computer more each time I use it.
Good point about he door locks. I suppose it’s something I’ll get used to.
I enjoyed your post though!
