Sex, Spies and Videotape

by freeandflawed on February 18, 2007

Chicago’s Red Eye newspaper (an edition of the Chicago Tribune, believes that you know you’ve made it in Hollywood if you’re cast as a spy.

Ryan Phillippe (Cruel Intentions Flags of Our Fathers) will be staring in Breach which is due out this year. He plays an FBI trainee assigned to snoop on a veteran agent who turns out o be a spy for the Russians.

Red Eye has come up with a name for the elite group of movie spies called “The Suave Six.” Included in the six are Ryan Phillippe in “Breach” (2007), George Clooney in Syriana (2005), Ben Affleck in The Sum of All Fears (2002), Brad Pitt in Spy Game (2001), Matt Damon in The Good Shepherd (2006) and Daniel Craig in Casino Royale (2006).

And now, RedEye’s take on “Why They’re Suave”

Phillippe: “Though he has said his divorce from Reese Witherspoon is taking atoll on him, Phillippe is winning critical kudos for his work in ‘Breach.’”

Clooney: “Actually, for his role as CIA operative Bob Barnes, Clooney became decidedly un-suave by gaining weight and growing a beard.”

Affleck: “He’s always had a sense of humor about his film flops and made a dignified comeback in the indie drama ‘Hollywoodland.’”

Pitt: “He rides motorcycles. He’s married to the sexiest woman alive. His hobby is architecture. Shall we go on?”

Damon: “He’s Hollywood’s go-to guy for cop/secret agent roles (see: The Departed The Bourne Identity ‘Syriana’).”

Craig: “Um, did you see the shot of the new James Bond in swim trunks?”

I have yet to see “The Departed” although I really want to. I guess I’ll have to wait till the DVD comes out. I want to see how this Hollywood version of the movie is compared to the original (Hong Kong’s “Infernal Affairs”).

On a totally different note but still in the subject of thriller movies, I don’t really dig this new Bond. I thought Pierce Brosnan was one of the best Bonds.

Anyway, keep posting! I like your news-snippets style. I just started out blogging on this site and I’m still trying to find my writing style.
